Another Hurricane Season?   Already?

Oh No....here it comes again!!!

We find it hard to accept that in less than one month we will again be "in" Hurricane Season.  One thing that is missing this year is the bravado I've also seen as hurricane seasons approached on the Gulf Coast.

Long-timers would always shrug off concerns with "I was here during Camille"...."don't worry about it"....No one says that here now.  Instead, we look at FEMA trailers in so many yards and wonder what they will do to our own homes in a high wind.

We remember the roads turning into parking lots for hours on end last year as some of us left in advance of Katrina.   What will happen if we have to leave this year?   There will be so many more people trying to get away from the Coast.  With bridges still out, the traffic will certianly not be easier.

We tell each other that we've seen the worst and that surely this year will be much easier -- but we're not sure we believe it.  What we do know is that a storm not as powerful as Katrina could do serious damage on the Gulf Coast this year.  There is much debris still left in our neighborhoods.  So many homes damaged beyond repair have been abandoned by their owners.  The sit sadly alone in yards filled with debris that high winds would turn into missiles.

We realize there is little change of a repeat of the disastrous 2005 hurricane season.  But we are nervous and if truth be told, we are afraid.  We will leave earlier this year, and travel farther perhaps.  We will not leave behind our pets or family photographs.  We pray for a quiet hurricane season even as we see the same strange weather this year....mild winter, wam Gulf, very dry weather.   Wish us luck.
